FABRIZIO RUGGIERO

This body of work examines contemporary fresco as a critical and analytical medium, repositioning a historically durable technique within the conceptual frameworks of current artistic discourse.

Fresco is approached as a conceptual choice that reintroduces duration, irreversibility, and responsibility into an accelerated visual culture. Within this framework, the image functions as testimony rather than representation.

The practice approaches painting as a process inseparable from time and commitment. Fresco requires the artist to work within the limits of the material’s transformation, embedding decision-making into the surface itself. This condition situates the work outside the logic of repetition and correction, positioning each image as a singular event that cannot be revised once completed. The resulting surface bears the traces of both labor and temporality.

Portraiture within the project is articulated as effigy rather than representation. The depicted figures —artists, cultural actors, and individuals of civic relevance— are constructed as symbolic presences situated between personal identity and collective memory.
