An evocative void, a negative frame in the shape of a human body—The Liberated Human Being, The Enlightened One—invites contemplation on what it means to transcend societal conditioning.
The Sanskrit term Bhanganaya, meaning "Removal of Obstacles," forms the basis for this profound exploration. This sculpture represents a wish for the dissolution of the conditioned mind that constrains humanity, envisioning a state of awareness unfettered by the socio-political, economic, and religious structures that shape modern consciousness in the early 21st century.
Through this empty frame, viewers are encouraged to see beyond what is, to what could be—a world that comes into existence through observation, where perception itself is a generative force. As natural phenomena shift within the frame's boundaries, the sculpture serves as a metaphor for transformation, suggesting that a Liberated Mind must continually recognize the Impermanence of all Phenomena.
The "Liberated Human Being" emerges as a symbol of self-transformation through sustained, clear awareness of the world's transitory nature. Here, artist Fabrizio Ruggiero interrogates the intersection of language, perception, and digital art, investigating the networked installation as a dynamic site for storytelling and reimagining reality.
On presenting Bhanganaya, Ruggiero remarked, "I believe the distinction between the real and the virtual is a false dialectic. As a visual artist, I explore how digital work not only continues the dematerialization of the art object but also enables the emergence of 'New Worlds'—spaces in which we can reconsider and rename the nature of reality."
